Summary: In an increasingly competitive world, retailers are caught between reigning in inventory to lower costs and increase turn and holding more inventory to drive in-stock and customer service. See how leading retailers are building their business by applying models like those used by Wall Street to move beyond traditional metrics of in-stock and turn to directly measure and manage the profitability of their supply chain and inventory decisions.

Over the last 20 years, retailers have become increasingly aware of the impact of the supply chain on customer service and profitability. While measures such as in-stock %, weeks of supply and turns provide valuable insight into the state of a retailer’s inventory, they fall short of helping a retailer optimize their inventory and supply chain.

In the free web event held on April 25th, attendees heard from Jiri Nechleba and Ed Rennemann, Crate & Barrel’s CIO, about how 4R profit-optimized in-store inventory levels by applying advanced analytics and optimization technology. In addition, Crate & Barrel discussed how it is applying profit-optimizing approaches throughout their supply chain. The event was moderated by Ken Clark, Executive Editor of Chain Store Age magazine.

Listeners learned how:

  • Profit-optimized inventory can lower lost sales, improve customer service and raise profits
  • Advanced analytics provide improved inventory performance measures
